Who it suits, and who it does not
It is for people whose income has nothing to do with a Spanish job. It rules out any job in Spain, whether on a payroll or on your own account. If you mean to keep a remote job, compare it first with the routes created for remote workers.
The consulate’s list
The visa application goes to the consulate covering your area, which publishes the list it wants. Broadly: evidence of enough means for you and every relative included, private health insurance with full cover in Spain, a criminal record check, a medical certificate, and the visa fees. Documents usually need an apostille and a translation. We give no income figure here: the threshold is set by the rules in force, and the consulate applies it.
Some people prefer to entrust the project to firms that organise a whole move to Spain, from the visa to the first weeks here. Others prepare it themselves and use us for the steps once in Valladolid.
Arriving in Valladolid
Your NIE comes with the visa. When you have a home, put your name on the padrón at the town hall. Then, without delay, book fingerprints for the TIE through the cita previa for Valladolid: on policia.es, the brigade on C/ Gerona s/n lists non-lucrative residence (“residencias no lucrativas”) next to TIE issue.
Renewing later
The first authorisation is temporary. Before it ends, you apply to renew it, showing that your means and health cover are still in place and that Valladolid has really been your home. The Oficina de Extranjería on Calle Arzobispo José Delicado names the grant and renewal of non-lucrative residence among its matters, and renewals can be filed online too. Keep bank statements, insurance renewals and your padrón history together from the start.
Property does not open a residence route either: the golden visa was abolished in 2025.
